Biotope Care

Biotope care is an important part of Wildlife Management which for example means that the number of shelters and food are increased in an area, which can give the outcome that the wildlife prefer the new conditions and as a result increase in number within that specific area.

In order to reach your objective of increasing the wildlife at your property, a recommandation is to establish a Wildlife Manangement Plan; before any actions are taken. The plan should include descriptions on what the current situation looks like and what actions are needed in order to improve the environment for the wildlife population that you would like to see growth in.

Either you focus on improving the wildlife at the entire property, or you choose specific areas where your efforts are focused, which also needs to be aligned with the objectives in your Wildlife Management Plan.

In order to conduct good biotope care you need to have extensive knowledge about the different requirement plants need for the places of growth and likewise extensive knowledge of the choices of habitats for the wildlife.

What is biotope care?

Biotope is one part of nature where the environment has a homogeneous ecological structure. Biotope includes both land and water. The word habitat is also mentioned often in literature and refers to the requirements that an organism has on the environment that they live in.

The biotope care that I am focusing on is withing the zones between the fields, pasture land and production forest. This area is effected by letting selected plants get more space to grow, in order to serve as shelters and food for the wildlife. By focusing on this type of biotope care there are naturally zones created for pheasants, partridges, deers and other wildlife.

In order for this to not become overwhelming, my advice to someone that wants to start with these kind of actions is to do a plan for several years; but don't wait, start now!
